Durmitor National Park is one of the most beautiful natural site, not just in Montenegro, but the whole Balkans area. Together with Tara River Canyon which is the second deepest canyon in the world, Durmitor mountain is the largest protected area in Montenegro, and it was inscribed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1980.
48 peaks over 2000m above the sea level, 18 glacial lakes and 5 canyons, make it one of the most attractive destinations for both, experienced hikers and families. In the winter season Durmitor is ski center, while in the summer you can explore this gorgeous mountain and its picturesque landscapes, hiking along the lakes, riding a horse in the flourishing meadows or riding ATV quads through the thick pine forests.
Black Lake, is one of the most famous attraction on Durmitor Mountain. Surrounded by dense pine forests and mountain peaks, the lake offers a peaceful setting and stunning views in every season. It is a popular spot for walking, relaxing, and enjoying the untouched nature of the Durmitor region.
Tour overview
9:00h – Meet with your guide in front of your hotel and depart for Durmitor Mountain, one of the most stunning mountain ranges in the Balkans.
Upon arrival, we visit the Black Lake, the most famous lake on Durmitor Mountain and take a walking trail around it.
The trail is 4km long and it is suitable even for non-active hikers. Even though this is an easy hike, we recommend wearing a hiking shoes.
After visiting Black Lake, continue to a local family-run household on Durmitor Mountain, where you will experience the simple way of life while enjoying lunch.
The family-run farm in Žabljak is home to a variety of animals and a greenhouse where fresh vegetables are grown for both the family and their guests. All meals are homemade, using ingredients straight from the farm. A highlight of the menu is dishes made with fresh forest mushrooms, offering a true taste of local flavors. There is no fixed menu—every meal is a seasonal surprise. Guests can fully immerse themselves in rural life, taking part in everyday farm activities such as mowing, hay gathering, picking forest fruits, and caring for the animals. This is a unique opportunity to slow down, connect with nature, and experience the authentic rhythms of village life.
