Skadar Lake, one of the five national parks in Montenegro, is the largest lake in the Balkans, occupying an area of 380 square km.

Skadar Lake is known for its diverse flora and fauna. It is home to 45 fish species and 280 bird species. This is very important biodiversity area, especially for birds, as it is an important resting place during the migration of birds from Europe to Africa.  It is home to the rare Dalmatian pelican, which became the lake trademark, and also to pygmy cormorants. Main activity on the lake is birdwatching.

Skadar lake area is also known as the wine region. Due to exceptional climate, soil structure, fertile ground, the autochthonous but also world-wine varieties have been growing here successfully.

Tour overview

10:00 a.m. – we meet in Kotor and start our journey to Virpazar, small and peaceful lake town known for the fish restaurants and many family ran wine cellars situated in its vicinity. Upon the arrival, we take 2h boat tour and you will have the opportunity to hear the stories about the lake from the first hand. On the way to Karuc, you will be passing through the water lilies and reeds, see the fisherman village, enjoy bird watching and explore wild beauty of the lake known for its diverse flora and fauna.

After the boat tour, we head to nearby family-owned winery with an old wine making tradition to taste domestic wine and Montenegrin cuisine. You will learn about Montenegrin autochthonous grape varieties and the wine production in this area.

After the lunch and wine tasting is over, we depart to Kotor.
